Earlier this week the Big East recruited former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue to assist them in fighting the inevitable expansion of the Chicago-based mafia known as the Big 10.
Tags, came out firing today, telling everyone who would listen that this whole expansion is really going to be a pain in the ass for the Big East and other conferences.
“It’s very disruptive to everyone outside of the Big Ten,” Tagliabue said in a phone interview on Thursday. “Everything outside the Big Ten is held in artificial suspension. The Big Ten looks at a bunch of choices and everyone else has to deal with the depreciating value and a ton of negativity. I hope there’s a better way. Otherwise it’s going to have a terrible negative effect on everyone other than the schools in the Big Ten.”
Well, that should clear that up. Nicely done, Tags. Your work here is done. Somewhere Jim Delaney weeps in his office.
Tags does make some salient points about nobody in Long Island giving a damn about Rutgers vs. Minnesota football. He also makes a rather confusing point about not giving up his morning tennis match to watch Big 10 football. Uh, okay. Yes, Tags. God forbid you don't get in your two-setter on Saturday morning.
I'm sure this is exactly the viewpoint Tags took when he represented the NFL against the USFL in the 80s. Way to champion the little guy, big fella.
